Society against Serbs

Society against Serbs was a Bulgarian organization established in 1897 in Selânik, Ottoman Empire by members of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO).
==History==
It was established by the IMRO, on the initiative of Dame Gruev. At this time the name of the organization was Bulgarian Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Committees (BMARC), and Gruev had the quality of a Bulgarian school inspector.〔The National Question in Yugoslavia: Origins, History, Politics, Ivo Banac, Cornell University Press, 1988, ISBN 0801494931, p. 314.〕 The reason was the assassination in the town of a Bulgarian teacher, member of the Bulgarian Secret Revolutionary Brotherhood by Serbian activists.〔 „От Плевен до Солун – недоживяното житие на учителя Христо Ганов (1864-1897 г.)” Красимир Петров , РИМ - Плевен.〕
The Society carried out assassinations of Serbs and Bulgarian renegades (Serbomans) in the Ottoman Empire (Old Serbia and Macedonia). In the Sofia magazine ''Pravo'', ''organ of the Bulgarians in Macedonia and Adrianople areas'', was published an appeal that "the Serbs shall, with fire and sword, be evicted from Macedonia" (1897).〔 It had murdered up until 1902 at least 43 persons, and wounded 52 persons. Most of them were Serbian schools' teachers, Serbian Orthodox priests, and Bulgarian renegades. In 1902 the Bulgarian Committees' program was revised, emphasizing the cooperation among all ethnic groups in the Ottoman territories in Europe.〔Historical Dictionary of Bulgaria, Raymond Detrez, Scarecrow Press, 2006, ISBN 0810849011, p. 135〕 As result in the same year the Society ceased to exist.〔(Center for Serbian Studies, Department for history, Vol. 4, 2013, Society against Serbs 1897 - 1902; Uroš Šešum, p. 99. )〕
